The virulent reaction from programmers to this one shows how much the industry is dominated by the "superiority of programmers" mentality, and also how much programmers are fearful for their jobs right now.

"Characteristics of Successful Game Designers" 23 Dec  '08.

"Opinion: Why Immersion Shouldn't Be The 'Holy Grail'" 19 Dec ‘08.

Idea Origins”  9 Dec '08

These follow three other articles on GameCareerGuide published in September and October.

Dr. Lewis Pulsipher (Ph.D. Duke) is the designer of half a dozen published boardgames, and was the first person in the NC community college to teach game design classes (fall 2004).  A computer expert, he worked for more than nine years as programmer and chief of PCs and networks at Womack Army Medical Center.  He has over 17,000 classroom hours of teaching experience including over 20 years of part-time graduate teaching experience.

His most well-known game is BritanniaBritannia is a strategically deep four player game of epic proportions (4-5 hour playing time) depicting the history of Great Britain from the Roman invasion to the Norman conquest (44-1066 AD).  It is played primarily for entertainment but is also used in some schools to teach "dark Ages" history.  Originally published in three countries beginning in 1986, with a new edition in 2006, a new printing of Britannia in four foreign languages is forthcoming later this fall.  It was recently described in a review in Armchair General magazine online as “one of the great titles in the world of games.”
